Privacy at Polarized

This page is a pre-launch privacy overview for Polarized. It describes the product architecture currently being developed and will be updated as the service approaches public release.
What Polarized does
Polarized is a budgeting application designed to identify supported bank transaction-alert emails and convert relevant transaction information into normalized records used by the user's budget.
Bank credentials
Polarized does not require your bank username or bank password for its transaction-alert budgeting functionality. Polarized is not designed to sign in to your bank account on your behalf.
Connecting your mailbox
If you choose to connect a supported email account, you authorize the connection through your email provider. The provider determines and displays the permissions associated with that authorization.
Polarized is designed to use that connection to identify and process supported bank transaction-alert messages. It is not intended to operate as a general-purpose email reader.
How messages are processed
Polarized is designed to narrow mailbox retrieval to messages that are candidates for supported bank transaction alerts. Relevant message content may be processed to identify transaction information such as merchant, amount, date, time, currency, and transaction status.
Raw email content used during transaction processing is designed to be discarded after processing rather than retained as the user's transaction history.
Information Polarized may retain
Polarized may retain information necessary to provide its budgeting features, including account information, normalized transaction information, budgeting settings, goals, selected bank information, and mailbox connection metadata.
Mailbox authorization credentials, such as OAuth access or refresh tokens when required by a provider, are intended to be maintained server-side and are not exposed to the Polarized mobile application as provider client secrets.
Disconnecting a mailbox
Polarized is being designed to allow users to disconnect a connected mailbox. Disconnecting removes Polarized's locally stored authorization material associated with that mailbox. Where supported and implemented for a provider, Polarized will also use the provider's applicable authorization-revocation process.
Use of mailbox data
Polarized is being designed to use mailbox-derived information to provide user-facing budgeting and transaction-tracking functionality. Polarized does not intend to sell mailbox content or use mailbox content for advertising or advertising profiling.
Security
Polarized is being designed with server-side authorization handling, access controls, and limited data retention for mailbox processing. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, and security controls will continue to be tested and hardened before public launch.
Account and data controls
Polarized is being designed to provide controls for disconnecting mailbox connections and managing account data. Additional information about deletion and other data controls will be added before public launch.

This privacy overview may change as Polarized's features and provider integrations are completed. The date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
